Caribbean:

MY TOP TEN BEACHES AROUND THE GLOBE

The weather is cold and mostly grey, I got the flu and winter is on its best behavior. As I'm working on the great connection between my hot-water bottle and I, pouring tea followed buy even more tea down my sore throat, my mind is drifting off into those memories of places I'd rather be right now – stunning beaches around the world.

As you can see, I'm already sounding kinda melodramatic ;) So enough of it, lets better get started with my top ten favorite beaches.

HAVANA - A JOURNEY INTO THE PAST

We're still staying on Cuba, to be more precisely: in Havana.

Havana is like traveling through time. Things are different here, not only on the outside but also humankind itself. People are open minded and curious and me and my best friend got welcomed with open arms.

The city itself is rich in contrast but also a shocking mixture of decay – eight houses are collapsing in Havana every day on an average – and splendid architecture of old times. Stucco, colors, buildings built with a love for the detail, but also wiring, hanging into puddles of water with people walking through, unsuspecting. Old-timers, some of them are in miraculously good condition but some are also held together only by duct tape. One of the cars, I've seen, had it's side mirror mounted with a stick and a rope.

THE BEACH WITH THE MOST WHITE SAND

The most beautiful beach I've ever seen while traveling - and I've seen quite a few beaches along the ride -can be found in Varadero, on Cuba.

Varadero is located in the boondocks of Matanzas and is approximately 90 miles / 145 kilometers far out from Havana. I've visited Cuba in 2015, together with my best friend. Despite the fact that we got told that Varadero has nothing to do with the life on Cuba and that we wouldn't find any typical Cuban lifestyle there, we were still convinced: we had to see Varadero and we hadn't been disappointed.

Of course, there are more hotels in Varadero than anywhere else on Cuba but that's it. The locals are also driving old-timers around here and everything's relaxed.

I've found a pretty quiet hotel for us, close to the top of the peninsula, without the party crowd. The beach was about five minutes walk from the hotel and was open to the public, so no annoying animation program there either. Just everything the heart desires.

YOUR COSTA RICA PACKING LIST ESSENTIALS

Playa Buena Vista
Playa Buena Vista

I have to admit it, I am a list enthusiast when it comes down to packing my bags for traveling. I write down the things that I definitely shouldn't leave at home and the ones, I'd like to bring for convenience and when it's finally time to get out the suitcase and start packing, I'm gathering all things on said list and the fun as well as the stuffing begins.

Yes, I know, that is a very German habit but I don't mind packing bags as longs as it's not right before my homeward journey but again, who likes packing when the holidays are about to end?

A BED IN PARADISE - COSTA RICA HOTEL GUIDE

If you're heading off on vacation and you don't want to sleep in a hammock, a tent or on the next park bench, you usually need a hotel or a holiday apartment. But sometimes, the search for the right place to stay appears rather difficult and time-consuming. There are hotels and their reviews are all over the internet, but those review are not always trustworthy. Booking.com provides pretty good offers for selected hotels, for example, but I've already had bad experiences with their reviews.

THE ISLAND OF YOUR DREAM & FLIGHT BARGAINS – ARE LOW BUDGET VACATIONS IN REMOTE PARADISES POSSIBLE?

After my travel tips for for 2017, I'm hurling myself as it were into a self-attempt today. How cheap is it really to travel to some of those faraway and in some cases even unknown paradise-islands? How much do you have to pay for a flight to bright white sand beaches, lush junglescapes, traversed by waterfalls and the crystal clear ocean? Spoiler alert – it is possible. I was able to enjoy one of those island-paradises myself for a bargain price and now I'm challenging myself to find the best rates combined with the best destinations and I bet, every single one of us has dreamed of them at least once.

So, ready, set, go and if you still haven't found your chosen destination for 2017, after my last post you'll hit pay dirt today.
